2025 Champions

Sheryl Louis

On September 23, 2023 at age 69, Sheryl Louis earned her Master of Science in Nursing Education degree.

It had been a goal if hers for decades. By the time she was 11, Sheryl knew she wanted to be a nurse. When she reached nursing school, she knew she wanted to teach nursing. A half century later, she is doing both and doing them both well.

“I received my MSN at 69 so I could be a better teacher – as good a teacher as I am a nurse,” she says.

As a working registered nurse, Sheryl brings 50 years of hands-on experience to students at a local community college. She says she likes the diversity of that educational environment because of the perspectives brought by the sudents – their ages ranging from their 20s to 50s.

At age 71, Sheryl is doing the things she loves to do. She’s is a nurse. An educator. A certified group exercise instructor. A dancer in a parade dance krewe. She’s even in a walking club that holds regular 3-mile walks on Saturdays.

Sheryl Louis is, quite simply, an inspiration. That’s why Peoples Health and the New Orleans Saints are proud to honor her as a Peoples Health Champion.
